Maria Ana T. Quimbo

Dr. Maria Ana T. Quimbo holds a Professor 12 position at the College of Public Affairs and Development in UP Los Baños and has a current appointment as UP Scientist II under the UP System Scientific and Productivity System Award. Dr. Quimbo specializes in Educational Research and Evaluation and teaches graduate courses in Education, Research and Research Methods, Instructional Systems Design and Management, and Test and Measurement. She leads and conducts research activities focused mainly on evaluation studies in the areas of distance education, e-learning, education policy and practice, curriculum studies, learning analytics, community education, communities in transition, and community development. Her recent research engagements are geared toward evaluation studies on capacity building effectiveness, technology integration in curriculum and teaching, inclusive development, and climate-resilient development. Dr. Quimbo had published over 70 research articles in refereed journals, at least 20 of which in either Web of Science- or SCOPUS-indexed journals. She had also written 10 book chapters in both national and international refereed publications. Moreover, she had presented over 100 research papers in local and international conferences and academic fora. Her research productivity enabled her to receive local and international awards and recognitions. More recently, she received the Outstanding Researcher Award for Senior Faculty in the Social Sciences and the Humanities on the occasion of the 112th Founding Anniversary of UPLB held in March 2021. Dr. Quimbo is also a recipient of the One UP Professorial Chair Award for Outstanding Teaching and Research in Educational Research and Evaluation since 2016.

Currently, Dr. Quimbo is serving as a Project Leader of a UP System Emerging Interdiscipinary Research (EIDR) Program that aims to develop Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to build Climate-smart communities; a Project Leader of a research that aims to assess the Science and Technology Community-based for Inclusive Development Program funded by PCAARRD; and a Study Leader tasked on Building Capacity on Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture for BARMM funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization. She was recently part of two research projects funded by the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the Department of Health (DoH). Moreover, she has led research teams with funding from international organizations such as the Sustainable Mekong Research Network (SUMERNET), the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), and the joint project of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) and the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ). Dr. Quimbo has also conducted studies and written journal articles and book chapters on community-based monitoring system and evaluation, community development, community education, and communities in transition.
