COURSE DESCRIPTION
THE PROGRAM
The Extension Education course develops professional and competent academic leaders and other stakeholders of rural development and governance innovation platforms. Graduates are trained as researchers, policy advocates, managers of development institutions, as well as brokers of information and other advisory services that link actors under various rural development reform agenda. These agenda include poverty alleviation, improved agri-food systems and market chains, food and nutrition security, climate resiliency, and sustainable management of natural resources.
Program Requirements
- Core courses (minimum of 14 units)
- Research specialization courses (minimum of 10 units)
- Cognate courses (minimum of 9 units for single cognate and 12 units for double cognates, with a minimum of 6 units taken from each cognate field)
- Dissertation (12 units)

Description: Management theories and concepts as they relate to organizations with emphasis on educational institutions; forces in the organization and the external environment and their influence on managerial roles, functions, and management policies.

CED 301. Philosophical Ideas in Development
Description: Philosophical traditions in development and conceptual frameworks for analyzing contemporary development programs.

Description: Identification, description, and analysis of changes taking place in rural institutions, which relate to the economic, social, political, and cultural life of the rural population.

Description: Postulates in science, structure, functions, and formats of theory; concept formation and definitions; origination of hypotheses; and introduction to the epistemological foundation of sociological theories.

Description: Methods of social research with emphasis on the major steps in the design and conduct of social research from problem definition to analysis, interpretation and write-up of research report.

STAT 166. Statistics for the Social Sciences2
Description: Test of hypothesis; non-parametric tests; analysis of one-way and two-way classification data; measures of association and relationships; introduction to multivariate techniques, factor analysis and time series analysis; sampling.
