CPAf faculty present papers at the SHE Conference

Several CPAf faculty members presented their studies during the 22nd International Conference of the Society for Human Ecology held at the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) last November 28 to December 1, 2017.

Themed “Envisioning Pathways to Just and Sustainable Futures: Celebrating Diversity, Pursuing Integration, and Developing Livable Communities,” the conference showcased the global practices, initiatives, and possibilities that contribute to the shaping of a more sustainable world.

Under the parallel session series on Advisory Services for Communities in Transition, Dr. Virginia R. Cardenas, CPAf Dean, presented her paper titled “Communities in Transition and Competencies Needed for Advisory Service Providers in Asia and the Pacific.” Dr. Rowena DT. Baconguis also presented her study on “Mainstreaming Climate Change in the Agricultural Extension System: Policy and Capacity Building Implications.” Likewise, the study of Dr. Agnes C. Rola, Dr. Aileen V. Lapitan, and Ms. Maria Cristina Alvarez on the “Challenges in Mainstreaming Climate Information in the Municipal Agricultural Extension Advisory System in the Philippines” was discussed by Dr. Lapitan.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rola presented a paper entitled “Vulnerability and Communities’ Adaptive Capacities for Food Security: Implications for Land Use Policy in the Santa Cruz Watershed, Laguna, Philippines” at the Sustainable Food and Water Systems session series.

Under the Family Development Sessions of the Conditional Cash Transfer (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino) Program session series, Dr. Josefina T. Dizon presented results of a study that she co-authored with Dr. Evelie P. Serrano (CPAf), Asst. Prof. Rufo Gil Z. Albor (CHE), and Ms. Kristine Marie T. Reyes (CHE). It was titled “An Evaluation of the Family Development Session Modules of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.”

The Society of Human Ecology conducts a conference annually to bring together diverse group of educators, researchers, and practitioners who apply interdisciplinary and ecological approaches to all aspects of human ecology education and research.
