All the best to our new ‘glocal’ leaders: A message to new graduates

Published Date

Congratulations to the Class of 2017 of the UPLB College of Public Affairs and Development!

This year, again we were able to produce globally competitive graduates in the fields of community development, development management and governance, extension education, and public affairs. As new graduate iskolars ng bayan para sa bayan, you are expected to serve your localities towards empowerment. We hope that we have equipped you with innovative ideas and ingrained the values and principles that are fundamental to your undertaking of serving as catalysts for development.

Ahead of you are challenges brought about by local, national, and even global events and phenomena. All economies and development initiatives are being affected by global trends, such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ASEAN Integration. Keep in mind that beyond being local development and governance practitioners, you are now ‘glocal’ leaders. You will play roles not just in the local development scene, you will also contribute to the praxis of rural development and governance in the global scene. We are now living in an environment where local, national, and international concerns intertwine; that is the new status quo. But we are truly confident that we have given you the best preparation to face the current challenges shaping global and local developments.

As you leave the portals of CPAf, carry with you its tradition of honor, excellence, and leadership.

On behalf of all faculty and staff of the College, I wish you, our new ‘glocal’ leaders in rural development and governance, all the best in your future endeavors.

Padayon, CPAf graduates! Padayon, ‘glocal’ leaders!

Dr. Virginia R. Cardenas, CPAf Dean
