Dr. Bing C. Brillo, Dr. Josefina T. Dizon, and Dr. Agnes C. Rola were three of the 12 UPLB faculty members who were awarded as UP Scientists during the 1317th UP Board of Regents (BOR) meeting on April 28, 2016.

Dr. Brillo is a newly appointed UP Scientist I, while Dr. Dizon and Dr. Rola renewed their titles as UP Scientist I and UP Scientist II, respectively.  Dr. Rola was also conferred as UP Scientist II in 2008-2010.

At present, CPAf has five faculty members who have been awarded as UP Scientists. Together with these new appointments, Dr. Rowena dT. Baconguis and Dr. Maria Ana T. Quimbo were also both conferred as Scientist I in 2014.

The UP Scientific Productivity System was established by the BOR in its 1199th meeting on August 26, 2005 to encourage and reward UP faculty for their scientific productivity.  Faculty members are evaluated based on their ability to publish in reputable refereed journals and books.

The UP Scientist appointment is effective for a period of three years, which can be renewed or upgraded depending on the appointee’s productivity.

The new appointment is valid from CY 2015-2017, while the renewed appointment is effective for CY 2016-2018.  During these periods, the scientists will receive the UP Scientific Productivity Award with a monthly monetary incentive. (by Ruth A. Ortega-dela Cruz)
