The Community Innovations Studies Center (CISC) conducted a survey of women cooperative members in Laguna to explore gender gap in Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries’ Organizations (ARBOs). The survey, which was done from August 31 to September 26, is part of the activities of the study entitled “Analysis of Gender Gap in Selected Agrarian Reform Cooperatives in Laguna, Philippines: An Exploratory Study.” The study started in April 2018 and is expected to be completed by December 2018.

Funded by UPLB Gender Center, the study aims to determine the economic opportunities available for both men and women in agrarian reform cooperatives, the decision-making patterns and participation in the cooperatives, access to resources and support services, and incorporation of gender and development (GAD) in the plans of the cooperatives. The study focuses on ARBOs because the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), as an agency, consciously mainstreams GAD in its programs and support services for them.

The survey respondents  were members of three ARBOs recommended to be part of the study by DAR Provincial Office in Laguna (DARPO-Laguna). These cooperatives, namely: Perez Agrarian Reform Cooperative in Calauan, Paagahan Agrarian Reform Community Multipurpose Cooperative in Mabitac, and Adia Multipurpose Cooperative in Santa Maria received their Certificate of Compliance from the Cooperative Development Authority, which proves their good standing as a cooperative. They have shown good leadership, operated viable businesses, and have active membership for the last three years.

CISC Director Blanquita R. Pantoja led the study with Samantha Geraldine G. De los Santos and Florita P. Rañeses as team members.
