The keynote panel was organized by Dr. Aaron Opdyke from the School of Civil Engineering of the University of Sydney. Together with aProf. Alinsunurin were Dr. Praditya Pertwi from the Faculty of Psychology of the Universitas Gadjah Mada and Dr. Jeffrey Walters from the College of Engineering of George Fox University.

The keynote panel focused on the topic “Inclusive Development: Ensuring Equitable Benefit and Voice.” Prof. Alinsunurin pitched in the issue on financial inclusion and its gendered impacts, focusing on understanding household decision-making through financial diaries. She emphasized that exclusion is not created equal, and inclusive financial systems should also account for intersectional factors. Dr. Opdyke, who provided the synthesis, challenged the professionals working in development on the methods used on the field matter and suggested they reflect on the institutions that shape the actions on the ground.

The Engineers without Borders (EWB) Conference is a yearly gathering of volunteers in the engineering profession that aims to discuss topics from a multi-disciplinary lens to address developing challenges. The EWB network spans worldwide, including the Philippines.
