The Community Innovations Studies Center (CISC) of the College of Public Affairs and Development (CPAf) conducted its Mid-Year Assessment and Planning workshop from June 9-11, 2025, in Alfonso, Cavite. During the three-day workshop, CISC research staff convened to review the status of ongoing research projects and assess whether current initiatives are still aligned with the Center’s main thrusts: Community Education, Communities in Transition, and Community-Based Strategies for Sustainable Development. Potential research proposals were also discussed in preparation for 2026 funding opportunities.
A major focus of the workshop was on planning and organizing the Center’s key activities in the upcoming months. Research activities, scheduled meetings, and administrative requirements to ensure an efficient workflow were discussed. As Dr. Agustin Arcenas approaches the end of his term as the CISC Director, Dr. Arcenas and the staff worked together to map out a transition plan for the incoming director, ensuring the smooth continuation of CISC’s work.
The highlight of this year’s workshop was the development of a new extension program, which aims to create a scalable and replicable approach for capacitating Local Government Units (LGUs) to develop and implement development plans aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative is designed to provide LGUs with the knowledge, tools, and support necessary to drive sustainable progress within their communities.

To cap off the productive three-day gathering, team building activities were also conducted, fostering stronger collaboration, camaraderie, and morale among the CISC staff as they move forward with renewed energy and shared vision for community innovation and development.
